CASTING: Jay Baruchel joins Robert Pattinson in the limo

Jay Baruchel has joined Robert Pattinson in the David Cronenberg-directed Cosmopolis. Pattinson plays a financial wiz kid who puts his life in danger by betting his entire fortune against the yen on a tumultous day in the adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel. Baruchel plays the shy guy who founded the company, and who acts as the trader’s conscience. Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Mathieu Amalric and Sarah Gadon also star. Baruchel just wrapped Goon, which he co-wrote with Evan Goldberg, and starred in and produced. He’s repped by CAA and Thruline.

Another compelling, Canadian, addition to, as Robert Pattinson put it, crazy cast. Very exciting news! You might know him from ‘Knocked Up’ or, ironically, ‘Fanboys’. *cough*

So who are we thinking….Shiner??

Shiner is described as “Eric’s Chief of Technology, small and boy faced. Wears a faded shirt and jeans and sits in a masturbatory crouch.” This doesn’t match the description from Deadline but Shiner is the closest character to Baruchel. Thoughts??

The Rat! The Russian Rat! Yes! (that’s all I can recall at the moment but it’s one of my favourite parts of the book). I can completely picture this exchange with Rob and Jay! I might be freaking out a lil right now. Expectations exceeded!

Woot! Another Canadian actor cast in Cosmpolis. #proud

I thought he was great in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (yes I watch those types of movies too … sue me! LOL) But the first I remembered him from was Almost Famous. This should be a good role for him … seems to “fit” … and will help him branch out of “teen movies”. Plus it’s a great opportunity for him to learn from Croneberg … Jay being a director (shorts) and writer too. So good for him!

Jay will play this role with the EXACT mix of nervousness, speedtalking, wit and all out nerdgeekness that it demands. GREAT casting choice.

baruchel didnt exist in the book, so why is he really in the limo. seems I’m the only one who isn’t jumping up and down with excitement.
