When eOne announced a release date of June 8th for Cosmopolis in Canada, I was on the computer looking up flights with one hand and dialing Chauffeur Deb with the other. I wasn’t going to miss it and she and I had to see the film together. As promotion progressed, we found out there was going to be a premiere/mini screening and we had to head down to TIFF Lightbox to check out the event. Thank you Suzie and emaninTdot for providing most of our pictures to share on the blog.

The red carpet was a tad chaotic to put it kindly and mildly but Deb and I were granted access to the screening by eOne at the last minute. Thank you, eOne for that because we’ll never forget it.
We had seen a tweet from them earlier in the day that showed the theater with panel chairs. There had been no talk of a Q&A so that was surprising for us. When we entered the theater, however, the chairs were gone. Chauffeur Deb thought it must have been another screening room but low and behold! Out came the Cosmopolis cast with David Cronenberg and producer, Martin Katz, to introduce the film. We were then told they would be back after the film for a Q&A.
More pictures, videos and tweets + our account continues after the cut!
TWEETS FROM THE PREMIERE
That was for us
The Q&A was the best surprise ever. We would get to see the film, then have the filmmakers discuss it with us! Needless to say, we LOVED the movie (our review tomorrow for the UK/Ireland June 15th release) and the 30 minute Q&A was fantastic. When the moderator opened up the questions to the audience, your 2 chauffeurs whispered to each other we weren’t going to ask any questions. The panel seemed intimidating and we were so excited, our nerves were getting the best of us. But when the floor was open, I was surprised people weren’t running to the mic. After the credits/beautiful Rothkos started to roll, my mind was flooded with questions. I could have held an hour long Q&A myself. The shock of seeing people hesitant about approaching the mic snapped the punk right out of me. I went up to the mic, was teased by Paul Giamatti, was told I was right by David Cronenberg and received a smile from Robert Pattinson after I said thank you. Deb and I got some applause from the crowd when we identified ourselves so it was awesome knowing we had some limo passengers cheering us on.
After the Q&A, Deb and I met producer, Martin Katz and gave him a button. He requested one for David as well and later emailed us to say David loved his button. Another treat was running into Patricia McKenzie (Kendra). Let’s just say after watching her scene in the film, we were more than in awe. How she survived we’ll never know.
VIDEOS FROM THE Q&A/INTRO PANEL
Q&A
The video cuts off when I get up to ask a question and fling my camera in Chauffeur Deb’s lap.
The video picks back up when Chauffeur Deb recovers my fumble and records. You miss Paul Giamatti teasing me to “come on, come on” but it’s in the other videos included below.
My battery died for the last 4 minutes but we have a few more versions of the Q&A
You can hear the tease towards the end of this first video.
The Toronto premiere was an amazing experience for me and Chauffeur Deb. It was incredible to be able to attend a Q&A right after viewing the film we’ve been following and discussing for over a year. And to have that Q&A be with David Cronenberg, Robert Pattinson, Paul Giamatti, Sarah Gadon, Kevin Duran and Emily Hampshire? Eric, Benno, Torval, Elise, Jane and their onscreen creator? Priceless.
